    Downloading FLAC files

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, so apologies if not... If I've purchased/downloaded FLAC files from a website, is there a way that dBpoweramp can validate that the files were downloaded without errors?

Yes. Open dbpa CONVERTER selecting those files and 'convert to' the utility DSP, TEST CONVERSION. Note that if there is no problem, it will run and simply return to the file selection screen. Only if there are problems will you get a popup showing errors.

Can you do the same with downloaded ALAC files?

yes, or mp3 or mp4, etc. FLAC is a *better* test, as FLAC files have embedded CRC info from when they were created, and the TEST CONVERSION decodes the FLAC file, calculates a CRC and compares it to the embedded CRC from time of the file creation. Those matching confirms that the file is identical. This is a great method for doing batch testing of whether one has any corrupted files. A major benefit of FLAC files versus other lossless formats.

ALAC does not contain any error checking outside of the format buildup (there is a chance a badly damaged ALAC file would not convert at all, but slight damage would not be detected).
