    m4p downloaded from iTunes

Which codec do I use to convert a .m4p file that I downloaded from iTunes to mp3?

None, these files are protected, or encyrpted, currently only Apple can read them.

Has no one, nowhere been able to break that encryption so that they can be converted to MP3. I have already purchased several songs from ITunes, but i have an MP3 player in my car, and want to listen to the songs there, and in order for me to do that I have to be able to convert them into mp3. Surely someone will break this barrier down like they did with other encryption schemes.

Well surely iTunes allows to burn an Audio CD copy of the songs you buy.. Once that CD is burnt, there's nothing preventing you from ripping it to MP3.. Just a thought like that :p

Yep, just burn to CD then rip to .mp3 and copy to your device. That's the only way I have found to do it.

Itunes has a problem finding most windows CD burners. Therefor, I (and many others) are unable to burn the files to CD. =(

Then you might have to wait until Apple releases a patch for burner recognition...

I don't claim to know a whole lot about iTunes but from what I have seen, you can burn an MP3 CD. This is in the newest version. I assume that this means that it just burns them to disc and that you can just copy to your pc and then burn. This all just what I assume, I haven't tried it myself yet.

                Hope this helps

I had a protected file that I couldn't burn to CD, so I used CoolEdit to record the song while I played it. Then I saved as .mp3. Worked great!

CoolEdit is a highly advanced recording program, basically equals that of professional sound studios sfotware. I use mine to record myself singing and then I can edit the bejeeses out of it and make myself actutally sound alright. Similar to audacity, but costs a fortune. Hope that helps.
