DSP Volume Normalization EBU R128 setting help.

I want to use the Music Converter to Normalize volume for streaming ...... and the streaming standard appears to be -14 LUFS.

I know that the EBU R238 is set internally to -18LUFS level, so the question is how to set the LUFS to -14 or -23, etc?

In testing if I convert a file using EBU R238 to get the LUFS scale, and set the slider to -14 as the LUFS target after I convert I look at the file in Audacity its not at -14......looks more like it is -18.

Really would like to use the LUFS standards and not go peak-to-peak, etc.

Hope I have described this clearly ----- so what am I doing wrong? I can use Audacity but that's one file at a time....ugh, but it does get me to the LUFS scale and -14 or -23.

Tested, converted a flac file to mp3, and generated the following two plots in audacity -18 and -14, there is 4 db difference between them.

Spoon --- not sure what you are showing me .

When you converted the file, were you using DSP Volume Normalize with EBU R128 and what happens when the slider is set to 0 --- does that mean the result will be -18 LUFS as the description indicates its set internally? And what does moving the slider actually do --- if I move it to -14 for example?

Just trying to understand what the slider does when using EBU R128 vs "Peak to Peak" or "Replay Gain?"

Guess its a basic lack of understanding the difference between LUFS and p-to-p db.

Looking for the best way to achieve the -14 LUFS -------

The Music Converter is definitely the way to go but really need your help in getting the correct settings.

Appreciate the time you already spent on the file converting ---- maybe the bottom line is, with EBU R128, what does the slider do to the internal setting of -18 LUFS?

Maybe what I'm asking if if the Music Converter with EBU R128 is calculating -18 LUFS, do I set the value to +4 to get -14 LUFS ---- or am I totally confused about the internal calculation and its purpose?

You must have an old version of dBpoweramp, on that page it now shows (see image)

Spoon, I have the current version.

Here is where I'm confused - when I read the help file for DSP Volume Normalization and see, "EBU R128: a newer standard of ReplayGain, the average loudness is calculated and the volume is adjusted. This method adjusts the audio. Internally the audio is calculated to a -18LUFS level which is adjustable" ----- if the slider is set to 0, does that mean it will use the internal -18 or, on your screen shot, do I have to set the slider to -18 to get the value of -18, or set the slider to get my desired -14 and so on.

What does the slider do with the "internally calculated -18?" If the slider is set to 0, does it raise the internal -18 to 0?

Sorry to be a pest, I just don't fully understand what the program is doing with the internal value and how to use the slider.

Thanks so much for the help.

It should not be set to 0, in the latest version, the version released today definitely has LUFS target if EBU is selected, so best use that one. The old version used to have target volume which was not the best as 0 was -18.

Great ---- makes sense, and now I see what I was expecting after a conversion.

                Thank you, thank you!
