Looking For Best Audio Conversion Settings for Archiving FLAC to MP3 ??

    Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of archiving my FLAC music collection and converting it to MP3 for more convenient listening across various devices. I want to keep the best possible quality while reducing file size for portability:

After reading through some older threads, I have seen various recommendations on MP3 encoding settings,,, but I would appreciate some updated advice. What’s the optimal balance between bitrate (I’ve seen suggestions ranging from 192 kbps to 320 kbps) and file size for ensuring solid audio quality: ?? I am using dBpoweramp for the conversion and am considering VBR settings,, but I am unsure if that’s the best option in 2024.

Does anyone have a preferred setup for this: ?? Also, are there any specific DSP effects you recommend enabling during the conversion process (like ReplayGain or Volume Normalize): ?? I searched on the forum for any solution to my query and I found this one thread https://forum.dbpoweramp.com/forum/dbpoweramp/music-converter/10067-converting-quality-flac-to-mp3-flutter/ but couldn't gey any solution.

Any guidance or personal experiences would be super helpful!!

    Thanks in advance,
    James Bolt

AAC is better than mp3 if your devices support it.

Either format using VBR one of the higher settings would be the best you can achieve. If your players do not support Replaygain, then it can be applied whilst converting with Volume Normalize.
