I guess AI isn't worried about further sound degradation when recompressing an already compressed format. Nor while it responding to a thread that already has a resolution.
Mp3 wont play on other divice

None may be fine. But to be safe you are better to set cache to 1024. Some drives misreport cache. 1024 will handle any possible cache.Leave a comment:

Okay, all good! Spent the evening starting the FLAC file, playing back now like a dream! Even with cache defaulted to (none) I am getting faster rips, and more accurate rips than with MP3 format and GREAT sound! Another week's ripping and i'm done. All good!Leave a comment:

The car is sorted, same files work on the phone, all done in MP3. I'm making the FLAC rip folder now, but when running the dbPoweramp test on my external device it says there is no cache, on the device and instead of 1024 it defaults to (none).Leave a comment:

What is cache question. Setting for secure rip. ? Can’t go wrong with 1024 cache size on any drive.Leave a comment:

My bad! There wasn't a disc in the drive, and that message disappeared with a disc in. Sorry, so its basically the question on the cache?Leave a comment:

So just a few more questions on FLAC ripping please. I read the dbPoweramp thread on FLAC ripping:
https://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper...%20to%20Naming.
There seem to have been a few changes/updates since then. Firstly as suggested I have used 3 CD's to detect Cache, and the result is that "This device doesn't cache, none will be used" or very similar. Is this an issue as it is now by default set to (None)?
Next question is under secure ripping settings it says "Accurate rip is un-configured" and there does not appear to be an option to Configure (yes there is a disc inserted in the drive). If I click on that message/button nothing happens. Is this normal? Before I go and re-rip 100's of CD's again I'd like to know I've got it right, and those 2 questions are worrying me a bit. Everything else I think is set.
I'm ready to start, just waiting on confirmation of the above. Thanks in advance.Leave a comment:

Flac is lossless there is no relationship between level and quality. Level has to do with size. I use level 5 out of habit. The only thing I add during ripping is the utility DSP for replay gain to add track and album replaygain tags.👍 1Leave a comment:

Hi Peter, thank you for that! It's done. Lastly for now, I am ready to start ripping my FLAC folder. Are there any recommendations on settings I should use? Like level 5 is default, should/could it be higher for better quality? Anything else I should know before doing this the 3rd and last time? Dat? That seems like it's your speciality? Any advice before I start is much appreciated. Thanks!Leave a comment:

Sorry, you guys will get tired of me and all my questions, apologies in advance. After ripping one CD of 5 tracks now, all were accurate, but the first one had (200) 2nd, 3rd and 4th were (2) and the last I think was (1) why would this happen?

Thanks guys! And yes, Dat, I do have too much time on my hands. I am retired and though I do have plenty to do, I can make time for ripping my CD's. I have taken note of your recommendation, and file "RIP 3" in FLAC is coming soon. I have 25 years of collecting my music on CD's and not all are in great shape anymore. In fact I bought a few new ones to replace damaged discs that I couldn't rip. Example Hotel California, track 1, 2 and 3 wouldn't rip, track 1 IS hotel California. I replaced the disc. Things have changed so much in the last 25 years for an old man like me catch up is a challenge at times. Gbrown, thanks for your comment too, when switching to "Target" the default rate was set at 130mbps, I just left it there not knowing any better. And Steve, thanks for your comments as well. The car system is a Harmon Kardon, I reached out to Suzuki Maruti (my car manufacturer) and asked for full specs on the system, I never got a reply. Bottom line, using "Target" at the lower bit rate solved the problem of playback, both in the car and on the phone. When I have got "Rip 3" done in FLAC then perhaps I can play around with adjustments to improve the quality. I was just confused why the laptop would play back the "Free format" at 348kbps (sounds amazing via Bluetooth) and the car and phone wouldn't. Everything was in MP3, I wasn't aware there were different types of MP3. I did that because 99% of devices work with MP3. I am learning by catch up, and FLAC is the next step. Thanks again for all your feedback, help and support! I'm making progress, slowly perhaps, but going forward!👍 1Leave a comment:

These are odd bit rates to use for mp3. Typically the standard higher compression rates are 128 or 192, the better quality rates are 256 or 320. For most players 320 is the maximum.
It is best to avoid converting anything from a lossy format. The results will not be ideal. The better way is to follow the previous advice from Dat Ei and start with a lossless master rip. Once you have this you can create as many copies in various lossy formats as you want with only first generation loss each time.Originally posted by stevesmoitbsHi,
To fix this try converting the MP3 files to a different format or bitrate that is compatible with your car’s system. You can use media conversion software to adjust the file settings and then copy them back to the USB drive.Last edited by GBrown; July 24, 2024, 10:11 AM.Leave a comment:
