I used xACT 1.58 to convert flac files to aiff and I trashed the flac files. Is there any software for Mac to improve these files or is this as far as I can go?

What do you mean by "improve?" You started with lossless flac files and converted to another lossless format....you've got the same digital data you started with, so neither diminished nor improved.
