    Volume Normalisation on MP3 files?

Hi, I've ripped my (mostly) WMA files to MP3 for listening to in the car off a USB stick. They're all noticeably quieter than the radio to when the radio cuts in with a traffic announcement it's very loud. Is it possible to just run Music Converter/Batch Ripper against the same MP3s with the Volume Normalisation DSP to up the volume by a few db or do I need to re-rip the lossless files again?

I'd use Replaygain but I'm not convinced the car radio supports it.

    Thanks, Simon

It would not support replaygain, for in car, you are best with the adaptive normalization method.

To be honest I don't think I want to level the volume at all just increase each file by 5dB which Volume Normalisation allows me to do. So do I need to re-convert the lossless files or is there a way to just "update" the mp3s?

If your music is from mixed sources, then a 5dB increase in volume (almost double) will give you clipping audio, which degrades the sound.

You would have to reconvert the lossless >> mp3
