Can't convert to AAC even though AAC Codec is installed

I see THIS message when I try to convert to AAC.

I've already installed the following write codec: dBpoweramp-Codec-m4a-Nero-AAC

Is there something else I need to do to get it working?

This codec is old now, it has been replaced with FDK:

That didn't work either. I'd prefer to use the old one as the new one has problems.

Can you tell me how to get it working please.

The old codec required a component from nero.com, Nero have now discontinued this component, and it is not something we are allowed to distribute.

The new codec should work, if your dBpoweramp is 32 bit, force the 32 bit install by holding the right shift key whilst running the install, and install to the same location as dBpoweramp.

I downloaded the old codec from http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Nero-AAC-Codec and put the files in DBpoweramp m4a Nero (AAC) folder and it's working now. However it's creating .m4a files. I know they are actually AAC files but with an .m4a extension but I was wondering why the program doesn't write the filenames as .aac?
Is there a way to get the program to write the file names as .aac?

They are m4a files with m4a headers, .aac files have no ID Tags or headers, different file type.

Is there a way to get DB Poweramp to name the AAC as .aac instead of .m4a?

You would need the codec right at the bottom which writes .aac
