Mac Produce .aif file

I stumbled upon a mac encoded HDCD or SACD that is encoded in .aif format and music converter is helpless - the files play great in windows media player (I have Shark Audio Codecs installed) the files play in quicktime as well but music converter doesn't convert them to any other format. each file is 100mb + or -. While hard drive space is not really an issue I'm happy with 16 bit CD quality files.

Any ideas how to tame these files and whittle them down to size?
