Part of file gets cut off (.aa to .mp3)

I'm very new to this so please bear with me.

I'm trying to convert .aa files to .mp3.

After converting, the resulting .mp3 is missing approximately 2 minutes at the beginning of the track. The strange thing is, if I play the original .aa files using the AudibleManager, they play fine. If i try and open the original .aa file with MPC, it starts about 2 minutes in (same as my converted .mp3).

I don't know what other information might be helpful.
    I'm on XP SP3
I tried converting with Helix and Lame
Let me know if I can provide other details.

    Thanks for looking.

I believe the reader resumes at the last listened position.

Yes. I believe this might be the issue.

I've tried reopening in the AudibleManager and starting from the beginning but it continues to convert from the same position. I've been trying to find out where or how the playback position is stored, but haven't come up with anything.

      Thanks.

        I figured out a work-around.

I opened the file with whatever current version of Windows Media Player I have (I don't think Classic keeps playback position).
I then moved the slider to the start, pressed stop, then closed Media Player. I opened the file again in Media Player to check position and it was at the start.
I converted to mp3 again, and this time it worked!
