    Problem with DbPoweramp

    Hi,

I've downloaded the trial version of DbPoweramp and ripped about half a dozen music cds.

I noticed that on playback, some of the tracks though not all, seemed to be missing a beat, like an interruption lasting a fraction of a second. This is quite annoying. Playing the tracks directly from the CD does not replicate this.

Any idea on what's happening here?

Which format are you ripping to? what is your player?

      Hi Spoon,

CDs were ripped to FLAC, lossless compression. Used VLC for playback. Tried Dbpoweramp Music player but it does not recognize FLAC files.

Not likely dbpa ripper problem unless your disk drive is going bad. When ripping do the FLACs show up as "secure" or AccurateRip match after the rip? Have you ticked the "after encoding verify written audio" on the ripper page. Try with another player. I suggest Foobar2000 as a good player.

VLC is a great video player but only so-so with audio, and doesn't handle gapless well.

          Garym,

Thanks for the Foobar2000 suggestion. Problem solved. Seems the culprit was VLC.

          I'll be buying dbpoweramp today.

            Just a quick question:

I'm guessing that I'll be able to play the FLAC audio files on an Apple Mac machine even though they were ripped on a Wintel machine, right?

Correct. A FLAC file (no matter where ripped) will play on any Operating System (windows, OSx, linux, etc.) so long as there is a player running on that machine that itself can handle FLAC files. All those OS's do have players that will handle FLAC. Do note that iTunes does NOT play FLAC files. But there are other players that run on a Mac that can play FLAC files.

                Thanks for the info Garym.

BTW, I just upgraded to version 2.1.1 of VLC and the aforementionned problems have been solved. There are no more gap in the music tracks as previously experienced with version 2.1.0 of VLC.
