    dBpoweramp and windows explorer unresponsive

I often use dBpoweramp to do a "ID tag update" before I edit the actual tags.

Most times it works well and fast (less than 1 second for an album), but sometimes both the converter and the editor can be extremely slow to update the files and even the internet explorer window becomes unresponsive (for maybe up to 5 minutes for an album).

When this happens the process cannot be cancelled (at least not without slowing the system even further down) and focus seem to shift between windows in an unpredictable way, so it's hard to do other stuff while waiting. Needless to say, this is anoying.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance :o)

The issue is likely with the interaction between Windows and your storage (if using a network), or if you have security software.

dBpoweramp simply writes changes to the tags, there is nothing there which can make the system unresponsive to a program end task, such an issue is at a very low level (the driver level).

I'm running dBpoweramp on a workstation on an internal SSD and I haven't noticed this behavior with other software.

Any know issues with Microsoft Security Essentials or Outpost Firewall?

I run MSE and have no issues, I think it might be hardware related, such long pauses on file actions. Have a look in the Event Viewer (for the system item) see if there is anything logged in there that might indicate this issue.

When these delays occur, the Event Viewer logs an application error and information for each file updated, see examples below.

Does this make any sense to you?
