Satisfy my curiosity

I used FileMon from Sysinternals, and noticed something.

Amp.exe accesses the files RossRoy.dpc every 5 seconds.

I get an OPEN event, followed by a QUERY INFORMATION event, and then a CLOSE event. And it repeats every 5 seconds.

What is it doing? Or is it windows that's doing something?

this is my guess:

the file RossRoy.dpc is the name of your MMC collection. if you have amp main player running and MMC at the same time a script is automated to check MMC every 5 sec for any updates to the collection RossRoy.dpc.

turn off MMC and only have your player running without loading a collection and the script is not activated.

Weird thing is I checked the content of the .dpc file, and it's empty. It can't be the MMC file.

Funny thing is, if you use "save as..." on MMC, it creates 2 files, one is a .mcc (which contains the info about all the files in MMC... possible typo here? the file for MMC being called .MCC?) and a .mcg which seems to be the genres list.

and whats even more interesting is if i delete all references to the MMC file it is looking for it will still try and access the same file over and over.

upon further investigation i found the dpc file is referring to the name/id of my computer. in my case it is "hello", in other words my pc profile name is "hello". you on win98se?

so i think the mystery is amp.exe is checking the profile name of the current logged in user on your pc. so if you had differrent users in your family they would logg into the pc as "bob" or whatever, and then the dpc file would be checking against "bob" as the logged in user.

It is the dBpowerAMP Play control file, it is checked to see if there is a selective play so that the selective button can be indented. I suppose I could check once every 30 seconds...

Doesn't change much of anything. It's not like it is taking much CPU time or anything. I was just curious :D
