    Sound quality On Ripped CDs

    I would welcome some advice.

    1. bought new CD and played it in CD Rom drive. perfect sound.

    2. Ripped same CD but favourite track ( a solo violin ) had two or three crackles in it.

I ripped the CD to .wav.

Can anyone explain why a new CD should produce crackles after ripping. Is there anything I can do to stop this problem?

DSP Settings, Dust, Fingerprints, and any number of other factors.

I explained that the Cd was brand new..had not been played until I ripped it. I did dudt it before putting it into the drive.

there are no fingerprints..I was very careful

So re DSP settings and other factors, could you advise further as I am no further forward.

      Thank you.

Sorry to be so long in replying..but I have been listening to CD tracks played on Hi Fi, CD Rom and then after ripping.

In all cases the reproduction is worse after ripping..so could it be my set up?

Perhaps, if you rip 1 wave file, then rip it again to another wave file, then compare the files (with a CRC program): if they are the same it is likely the problem is not with ripping (pops should give different wave files).

                Here is one:

Run it (it asks for a file) and it will give a number for a file, run it on another file and if the numbers match then the files are the same.
