    Compression settings

Here's something I noticed playing with various formats and compression settings...

Many of the Losless codecs actually produce larger files at higher compression settings. They take longer to encode, and should produce smaller files, but I've found that with flac, shn, and ape the higher settings aren't always better than the midrange settings.

    Go figure.

Perhaps the type of audio you are compressing?

Perhaps... I could try a variety of different styles to see. But my impression is that regardless of which level of lossless compression one chooses, the files still tend to be between 1.4 & 1.9 (between 55 & 60% of the origional).
