    Uncompressing Flac

    Hello All

    Newbie alert

I a at present trialling Dbpoweramp and have come across a query.

I downloaded a 20bit 44khz audio file from Hyperion Records (file properties actually lists this as 24bit) and attempted to decompress to uncompressed flac format . However the file properties continue to list that it remains compressed at 17%. I have tried decompressing to wav with no problems, if I then convert back to uncompressed Flac it compresses it again to 17%. I have not come across this with any other file which have all been 16 bit and I was wondering if the bit size was causing this anomally. Any answers appreciated. Hope this makes sense

The file must have large periods of silence (true zero) as these are skipped, even for uncompressed flac.

Thanks for the reply. The music is a Mozar piano quartet and athouh there are many comletely sient parts observing the spectrum anayser only narrow bands are displaying. Will this have the same effect if silent frequencies are pesent.

      Thanks again for reply

Isn't it a bit suspicious that 17 percent is very close to the 4 bits / 24 bits ratio?

Hunch: the frame header's wordlength differs from the file header's?
