Convert mp3 freeformat 384 Kbps files

I have searched the forum extensively without success and I'm losing a lot of hair!

I used to be able to convert mp3 freeformat 384 Kbps files to the format of my choice using dMC, but I have completely forgotten how I did it!

Several hours of searching here has not helped. The consensus appears to be, from what I've found, that it can't be done, but I know that I had it working...

Any assistance gratefully received.

The later versions of dBpoweramp (R12 and newer) do not support freeformat AFAIK.

Would it be possible to get a pre-R12 version? That is, the last version that supported freeformat.

I have a huge amount of files to batch process and I'm familiar with dMC - awesome batch processing capabilities!
