Inability to convert files in some sub-folders

I did a batch conversion of about 7,500 WMA files, convertting them to Apple Lossless. THe original files are in subfiolders and sub-sub-folders, organised by period, compodser and sometime piece. It worked fine, except about 1700 files failed.

The report on one failure states:

Thinking it was a software problem, I tried it using another program, but the same issue arose. That software stated in its error report that the system cannot find the path specified. THe file is in a sub-folder of a suib-folder. I thought that might be the difficuty, but it successfuilly converted other files in a sub-folder of a suib-folder.

Should I change the folder settings on my computer?

According to the error, you are converting WMA >> WMA not apple lossless.

Sorry for the error. I tried converting he fsailed files, this time to WMA in another folder, hopingthat would work, but the error message was the same. I shoiuld have redone the Ap[ple Lossless convertion, but, as I say, the erroir message was the same.

I tried again to convert to Apple Lossless the WMA files in one of the sub-folders I know failed the last time. THis is the error message I received:

The error is something is blocking dBpoweramp from reading the WMA files, it could be your security software which has sandboxed dBpoweramp. If you have security software as a test disable it then try to convert.

I just tried again.

I disabled the Firewall on my Norton 360 software (after disconnecting the inbternet of course). I reran the convert sand the same thing happened:

You are exceeding Windows Explorer's maximum pathlength. Likely you will have trouble even renaming that file in Explorer (though you can easily rename one of the folders).

Sounds very plausible. You can simply test it: In the D:\Concert Recordings\RECORDINGS\Music for Filing\Ripped CDs folder, create a copy of the the Peter-Lukas Graf subfolder and rename it to a single character you don't use for anything else - like ^, ¨ , ¤, _, §, whatever. I'll call it ^.
Go to ^. Rename the Flute Concertos to ^. Go to ^. Rename the Stamitz blah blah blah folder to ^. Finally, rename the wma to ^.wma. Now you should be within reach.

Run again, and see if it converts.


(Still I don't think it is a good idea to transcode WMA. WMA Lossless yes, lossies, no.)
