    FLAC to ALAC error

I just got an updated version 14.3 of dbpoweramp and in the past, have used an older edition for converting flac to alac no problem
when i convert the flac to alac on the one i have now, the apple lossless files have a very distinct high pitched, sound as if the singers were inhaling helium
im sure the flac files have nothing wrong with them as i have converted them before using an older version of dbpoweramp
for test, i converted the flac files to wav and they sounded fine
i also tried re installing the program to no avail

    problem?

    thanks

Is the file a strange frequency or 24 bit?

      its a strange frequency
best way to describe it is that the voices are really high pitched, noticeable echoes, and no bass
its 16 bit, 44.1 khz, and no apparent popup errors during the conversion

i tried converting a lower quality 256 kbps mp3 to ALAC and it had the same result above

i can send you before and after if you want

Convert a alac file which plays wrong to wave, then try to play it. Is it effected also?

converting alac to wave works fine

          did more tests though
i ran the alac file thorugh VLC player 2.0.4 which had the high pitched sound
but i just installed itunes 10.7 and ran the alac through that and it sound fine
both are running on a windows 8 OS 64 bit

so is it a vlc player problem?

Yes, we use apples own code to encode apple lossless these days, as they open sourced it.

              ok thanks spoon
the alac work on itunes so ill stick with that
i also tested the converted alac and wav files on foobar and they work fine
thanks for the quick responses spoon

not a problem but is there a reason why the converted alac and wav files are noticeably louder, when set to the same volume, then the original flac file?

                Perhaps player configuration.
