Channels setting

Channels setting

I'm converting some FLAC files and also some m4a (ALAC) files to mp3 and I'm not sure which channels setting to use: "joint stereo" or "auto". I think I understand joint stereo (it's a good thing, apparently) but I don't know what "auto" does. I just want to get the best overall sound quality at V0. Which setting should I use?

Auto matches the source channels, for 2 channel source, joint stereo would be used normally.
