ID tag editor is slow to respond/hangs with a long lyrics tag

I have noticed in recent versions of dBpoweramp (since at least 14.2?) that with a sufficiently long lyrics tag in a song file the ID tag editor becomes slow to respond to the point where it spins the CPU a lot and appears to hang Explorer. This is less of a problem when the tag is only in English (far from ideal responsiveness but still usable) and more of a problem when it is in e.g. Korean. I don't recall that this was a problem in older versions. A cursory glance at the spinning thread seems to tell me that the shell extension is burning a lot of time doing Unicode processing (being no specialist I may very well be wrong). Would it be possible for this problem to be investigated a bit more, as it is making tag editing a bit miserable for me? I am willing to cough up sample audio files if needed.
