Optimal quality setting, iTunes AAC to MP3

Although most of my music is lossless, I do sometimes buy from iTunes. I like to convert these from AAC to MP3, but am wondering about the optimal quality setting -- no discernible quality loss, maintain approximately the same file size. I could just convert to flac and get every last bit, but that seems a waste of space.

iTunes is 224Kbps? if you convert to 224kbps or above mp3 I am sure you will not hear a difference.
