I'm trying to convert files from either Apple Lossless or WAV to MP3 without success. I'm using batch converter. The process starts off very aggressively at 27x, but within 30 seconds its down to 6x, within 2 minutes down to 1.4x, and before it can complete the first of 13 songs it stalls out, showing 0x. It reacts to the Cancel button, but does not actual cancel and has to be forced to abort via Task Manager.
There is no album art or other files in the source folder, which is an internal drive on the Mac Pro. The destination is a USD drive.
Settings are
Target: VBR
Quality: 2.5 bit rate 180
encoding: normal
DSP effects:none
Hardware is a fairly new Mac Pro with 12 Gigs of ram, running Windows 7 via VirtualBox.
Strangely I used dbpoweramp for this a few months ago and it worked perfectly, going from and to separate USB drive.
I've tried a few other destination formats AIFF, FLAC same result.
NEVER MIND - In the process of creating this post I tried different destination drives and the problem is resolved! The initial drive is definitely visible and accessible, but just doesn't want to work with dMC. It (dMC) does work great pointed to a different USB drive and to an internal drive. Its now converting at 25x
I wouldn't even bother to post this except that it may contain useful info regarding use of dMC on Mac OS over VirtualBox (it works fine) , and to really suggest that one should heed the recommendations to not use, or at least to test, external USB drives if one is having problems.
