.WAV to .MP3 reverb/echo?

Hello,
I'm trying to convert .WAV files to .MP3 files. The .wav files sound OK when played back, but after the conversion to .mp3 the files sound like the voice is at the end of a corridor or a large empty room (echo or reverb?)
Is there a particular setting I need to make or mode to be in to prevent this? How do I set up before the conversion so the file sound normal?

Set a higher mp3 bitrate (also check no Presets are being used on the Advanced page).
