    Convert FLAC to MP3

Not sure where I should ask.

I have ripped all my CDs using dBpoweramp to my NAS in FLAC to play via my Sonos.

If I wanted to copy and convert from the NAS to my PC and change my file format to MP3 is this possible?

If so, what do I need to do/buy?

Dbpoweramp music converter can do this, with the batch converter program.

      Re: Convert FLAC to MP3

I have used DBp to re-rip about 4000 tracks, mostly of classical music, to FLAC. I used to have most of these in MP3. Now I wish to make a copy of this library in MP* so I can use on my Mobile. I have no idea, and so certainty, how to retain the original library in Flac, and have a second one in MP3. DBp is not that good on user-friendliness!! Can anyone help, please

Start the program Batch converter, select the music folder, click convert and choose mp3, set output to as a different drive or path, and dynamic naming to:

        [origpath]\[origfilename]

          Re: Convert FLAC to MP3

I did not have the time to do the conversion yet, but now I want to do it. I followed your instructions, but I did not want to include the new MP3 music, which would be an exact copy of my Flac but converted to MP3. under the Music library, so beforehand I created a new library called MY Music MP3 version, and listed it as "music" type. Yet when I try to choose it from the converting settings, it is not possible....select keys not highlighted, so not active. Are there some restrictions on where to copy to? Can I overcome them at the canversion stage, or shall I creat a file under Music, and then drag it out later. Would I be able to synchronis with an external device?

You can click Filter on the tool bar and only convert FLAC.

Thanks, but that is not the answer to my question. I asked why DB does not allow me to convert into a newly created file which is not a sub of "Music" or "My Music", but is itself a new library. I wish to store all MP3 music in a seperate library, but I am not allowed to do this. Thanks again, I am grateful for your help

Where exactly are you doing this? In Converter dialogue, you should be able to navigate to your target folder when you click on the Browse button:

Yes, that's exactly where I am. I click on "Browse", and get a list of files/libraries I can choose from, but when I choose the "My Music MP3 Version" Library that I had created with Windows 7, the buttons in the new dialogue box are not active, hence I cannot choose it. On the other hand if I try to create a new file/library from that dialogue, I can only do it as a sub of "Music - My Music..", which is what I prefer to avoid. Once this file is under that heading, it will show in my MediaMonkey player as simply another music file, as if it was a CD!!. Do you think there is a way around this. Thanks for your help.

It is windows which is not allowing the selection of this library I think.

OK, I think I found out how it works. I can start a new library called MP3...., but then I have to put a folder in it, say My MP3 Music. DB will allow you to transfer into this subfolder.

This apart, now I have some other issues, as the list in Windows seems to miss the track I tried this on, and it seems that it has Erased the file I converted, but when I go to Media Monkey I can still see its there.

Anyway, as they say, that's another story.

Okay, you had only created a "library" before? dBp needs a specific folder location target. Looks like you figured that part out.

So...you ran a test conversion to create an mp3 copy (of your existing FLAC file) in the new folder location you created above. But you're saying it's not there?

No, there is confusion because I have Windows file system, Media Player, DBpoweramp, and MediMonkey. Some files do not show on all, and also in the case of windows, the files are shown by artist's name. I am not sure if that particular file was actually empty. After your question, I converted successfully from my original Flac library Folder to the newly created MP3 folder under the new library. I was surprised however that it took 57 seconds to convert. At this rate it will take 66 hours to convert all my library (over 4000 tracks). Any suggestions within DB.? or is this inevitable? in which case my PC is tied up for all that time.

I see now that MediaMonkey have brought out version 4 which is using accuraterip technology from DB. I have not seen it yet, but I would expect it to be more userfriendly. Is amyone familiar with this version, it was only released this week. I would assume it is good business for DB and helps to establish them further as leaders for ripping

I also have ripped my music (~300 cds) to FLAC on my NAS. My SONOS system plays these perfectly. I also want to make these files available as MP3 for my iPhone and DLNA devices (Panasonic TV and Oppo BLueRay player (using Asset UPnP server). I exerimented using Music converter and successfully converted two albums, individually and became available on iTunes, Windows Media Player and my DLNA devices. Flushed with success, I set up Batch Converter to churn through the rest. However, something is not quite right. The files seem to be converted properly, they are available using iTunes and Windows Media Play but are not recognised by either of my DLNA devices. Any ideas?

                              Thanks!
