    HDCD flac to mp3

My HDCD flac files are 24bit with the HDCD tag set to Yes by CDRipper.

When I convert these files to mp3, the resulting files are 16bit and not 24bit.

    Please advise. TIA

mp3 is not a bitdepth codec, meaning it is upto the decoder to decide what to decode as, any mp3 file can be decoded as 24 bit.

So the HDCD encoded info in the flac is not lost when converted to mp3?

I have never really seen any studies to see if mp3 can retain 24 bit information (or 20 bit), so is anyones guess.

Finally then, is the HDCD CDRipper DSP, for Audio CD to flac/wav files only?

Sorry to sound a little confused.
