mp3 codec

I downloaded the DBpower music converter thinking
that by installing it that I would get the mp3 encoder
that winamp says I need. If you go to control panel/
multimedia/devices/audio codecs, it shows what codecs
you have, and I didn't have and mp3 codec so I went
ahead and downloaded dbpower music converter,
installed it, but still I do not have the mp3 encoder.
I just don't understand. The only reason I downloaded
and installed it was to get the mp3 codec - what am
I doing wrong? I have searched through google (that
is how I got here) for hours now tyring to find out
where in the world does one get the mp3 coded winamp
says you need, and I get pointed to a lot of music sites,
but still noone has clear and simple instructions for
simply getting that one little item - the mp3 codec -
help.

what is it your trying to do exactly? convert from? to mp3? or from mp3 to ?

what has this got to do with winamp? what was the message winamp gave you?
