Change lame - how to?

Hi!

I want to change the the lame encoder, because the current version (LAME 3.98r) not good for me. I would like to use an older version (LAME 3.92), because it is create much better quality.

I tried to overwrite the existing files (lame.exe & mp3 (Lame).dll), but the result is just noise. Any idea?

You would replace lame.exe, but you cannot use the old versions as they are missing something from the command line support (off the top of my head).

You cannot rate the quality of a lossy codec on spectrum analysis, see:

Specifically the masking section, a frequency plot means nothing (the frequency in question might have been removed to the benefit of overall quality of the frequencies you can hear).

The removal of anything above 20KHz is actually good for a lossy codec, see:

http://www.hearingfrequencytest.com/

If you are in your 20's you might only hear to 18KHz, as you get older it drops further.

agree. and the OP should read a bit on this over at hydrogenaudio.org. The developers of LAME would find it very funny that someone prefers the older version of LAME because of a supposed better quality. This is a myth.
