File size when Converting Aiff to MP3 240VBR

I am just about to purchase an iPod Classic 160G, my uncompressed AIFF library currently occupies 500G, I intend to use MP3 240VBR on the iPod. Could someone please advise how much storage 500G will occupy when compressing to 240VBR, this will allow me to decide whether I can fit my full collection on the iPod.

With VBR you cannot be sure as it is down to the audio on the final bitrate used.
