Uinstall some of the codecs, such as dBpoweramp Direct Show, or the dBpoweramp RealAudio if you have installed.

Well, regarding the slow conversion window launch, this turned out to be a system wide problem due to the 'Processes Live Watch' feature of the Ad-Aware application. Turned it off and all is well now.
But as noted in another thread, dbconfig.exe is now slow to load. Only app giving me trouble now, not that it's a big deal by any means!

It is a signed application, which means it needs to verify its certificate to run, if you have internet filter software this could slow the certificate validation.

10+ seconds even when not connected to the internet.
