I have a new Windows 7 64bit, quad core machine and I have just gone through the process of adding an optional file extension to directshow.txt, as per the instructions which worked on my Windows XP machine.
First I installed the latest direct show codec installer from DbPoweramp.
I then opened directshow.txt in the dbpoweramp Application Data directory. In the past, it contained a long list of file extensions, and I added the file extension on a new line at the bottom.
However, on my new computer, directshow.txt is an entirely blank file. Can anyone explain why this is so?
The process still works - I added the new file extension to the file, saved and closed it. I then ran dMC configuration, and the new file extension is listed under Decoders > Directshow Decoder. I then successfully converted the file type to mp3, so it all works. But I would still like to understand why there are no longer any other file extensions listed in directshow.txt.
