    Multi Core During Batch Conversion

I am running dbpoweramp reference v14. Multi core works when ripping a CD on my system and also when converting from WAV to APE. I see eight simultaneous processes converting the files.

However, when I convert from APE to WAV, only one conversion process runs at a time for every file I need to convert. Is there a configuration option I missed that is causing this?

You can force multi core with the DSP effect Multi-CPU force, the program does not use multi core when ape >> wave as the HDD speed is the limiter.

Thanks. I'll force it once to see if the speed improves or gets worse.

Re: Multi Core During Batch Conversion

I completed a quick test to see if there's a noticeable difference between a single file batch conversion versus simultaneous conversions from APE to WAV.

I have twenty six APE files totaling 819MB of data that I converted.

        Single thread results:
        10 minutes, 16 seconds

        Four concurrent threads:
        5 minutes, 7 seconds

Using simultaneous conversion is over a 50% improvement in speed.

A couple of points here-- the Multi CPU DSP limits its usage to only four cores. I am not sure why this is. My CPU has four cores, but they are hyper threaded. I would expect eight simultaneous conversions to further improve performance. dbPoweramp by default will perform eight simultaneous conversions on my system that are not to WAV.

Secondly, there appears to be no reason to default to a single file conversion when the CPU has multiple cores. My hard drive activity light was not on constantly, so my system handled the disk activity with no problem. Perhaps this was a good default behavior for older lesser powered computers. Any new computer nowadays should handle this with no problem.
