ID3 Tags Causes for Crashes?

Hi, I have some problems with converting some mp3 files into lower bitrate but unable to retain the ID3 tags otherwise illegal operation error will pop up and crash the program. I know its because of the ID3 tags because they work fine if I don't retain them but its a real hassle to name them one by one, so is there anyway to solve this? Or at least tell me what went wrong.. Thanks.
