Speed of batch conversion (AIFF >> WAV)

Hi, I just downloaded the trial version and tried the converter. I am using the converter's batch conversion function to converter my AIFF files(ripped by itunes and stored in an external HDD) to WAV into another 2.5" HDD, the convertion speed is roughly 18-25 mins a CD(10 music files), If I convert the files by larger batch(about 20 cd) it takes as much as 1 day! If I convert all(about 300cd) it takes forever!!!!! I read the forum and understand that the conversion speed should be 20x for single core CPU(true?), it can be upto 80x for 4 cores. But my experience is totally different, from the little window of the converter it indicated that the speed is only 3x, sometimes even less/slower!!!!

    is this normal?

My computer is already a i7 920 OCed to 3.8ghz.

Yes, connected by USB cable that comes with the HDD.

Possibly this which is slowing down, as a test convert to a different folder on your internal HDD to see the speed.

I let it run at night, when I check it in the morning, the speed down to 0.4X ! oh dear!

I just gave up and tried new method.

my AIFF files stored in a 3.5' HDD, I creat another new folder in this HDD, convert the AIFF files to this HDD's new folder(without sending out to another HDD), the speed is back to normal, now it is converting at 63x(I set the converter to utilise 4 cores of my i7 920 CPU ) , estimate time for converting 5xxx files is about 6 hours.

          lovely

USB is absolutely horrible when you hit it multi threaded.

Welcome to this forum you will enjoy your long stay over here in this forum.I had considered an iPad but it is slightly over budget and I'd question the build quality for this kind of environment.
