    Nero AAC 24 bit conversion

I hope someone can help explain this:

I have been converting 24 bit / 48kHz FLAC files to M4A using the Nero AAC codec (latest version 1.5.1) and dbPoweramp. I am not using any DSP's but note that the resulting M4A files are 16 bit. Does the Nero codec automatically reduce bit depth to 16 bit and, if so, does it use dithering or simply truncate?

    Thanks

Re: Nero AAC 24 bit conversion

Lossy codecs such as mp3 and aac do not have a defined bit depth, it is the decoder which chooses, that is not to say a bit depth of 24 bit or even 32 bit would be preserved.
