dMC gets diffirent results on diffirent computers

I got a really strange problem here:

I tested dMC-R13.4 on my station WinXP SP3, and the result is perfect (convert wma to mp3)

then I installed dMC on two other servers (Windows Server 2003 R2, and Windows Server 2003 Web Edition), did the same test converting from the same source file. No mater which output format I choose, the results are all really bad. The quality is really low, a lot of noise...

Just wondering what could cause this? Is audio adapter related? can dMC working on computer without sound adapter?

other tests:

converted the 1.wma to 1.wav under a xp pc, then conveted the 1.wav file to 1.mp3 on windows server 2003, the result came up fine.

installed Windows Media Audio 9 Pro codec or 10 Pro (release 6) on windows server 2003, then tried to conver 1.wma to 1.mp3, the result is still really bad.

Convert the file to wave on both computers, then compare in an audio editor, such as audacity.

The wma system codecs must be different (unless you have inserted some DSP effects into dbpoweramp), the wma type is 'Encoder Windows Media Audio Voice 9' which might account for the differences.

Thanks Spoon! No, I didn't insert any dsp effects. It's logical to say the system codec for wma are diffirent on xp and 2k3. Could you think anything to solve this problem? I have to do the covertion on a 2k3 server, that's the why I purchased dbpoweramp.

it's w2k sp2 mess up with the codec...

to fix it, apply Microsoft's hot fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940666
