ReplayGain setting converting FLAC to ALAC

why are my replay gain settings not preserved converting from FLAC (set by Foobar) to ALAC? RG DSP does the trick but this shouldn't be necessary, right?

It was considered, the decision was made to simply drop them (you could have other DSP effects altering the audio).
