Convert DVD Vob files?

Hello, I've used DVD Decrypter to extract the audio from a concert DVD to some VOB files on my hard disk.

I hoped that dbPowerAmp would be able to convert the Linear PCM sound in the .VOB files to something more standard, but when I try to use the batch converter I get this message:

What is the extension of the lpcm file?

.VOB

They play OK in Media Player 12 in Windows 7, and the sound (in this case) is 16bit 48khz Linear PCM.

The vob is a container, so LPCM would have to be extracted.

Ah - there was a "set selected demux" option for the audio stream in DVD Decrypter that I didn't set. Now I have a .wav file, and dbpoweramp can work with it.

Is there a way to have dbPowerAmp convert .ac3 audio?

If you install the dBpoweramp DirectShow decoder yes.

I've installed the DirectShow decoder (v2) from the Codec page, but can't convert .ac3 files. Converter displays

When I look at the list of supported extensions for DirectShow in dbPowerAmp Configuration I can't see .ac3. Do I just need to add that? How?

You would have to install the ac3 direct show codecs (we do not supply those), test windows media player can play the file, then add the .ac3 extension to the directshow dbpoweramp codec (the help file shows how to do this).

Before I installed DirectShow decoder I installed Vista Codec Pack which provides AC3filter.exe and AC3filter.ax. Media Player plays .ac3 files with no problem. Should that be good enough?

You have to manually add the extension to dbpoweramp.

That's great - I had a look, but I couldn't see how to add an extension in the configuration UI. What do I need to do?

Please see the help file for the Directshow dbppoweramp codec.

OK, got it.

I was trying to find the help file on-line, or from a link in dbPowerAmp Configuration. I just found it in Start > dbPowerAmp Configuration > Help

I made the easy change to directshow.txt that is described and now am converting successfully!
