Converting to M4A/AAC results in empty file

    Hi there.

I'm trying to convert to an M4A file, and I'm ending up with a 0 byte file at the end. I've tried converting to an AAC file instead, and it ends up similar (although this file is around 1kb). This is from several different source files (including MP3 and WAV files, nothing exotic) with identical results.

I've installed the neroAacEnc.exe file as instructed, and the mp4creator.exe, encoder.txt and toaac.bat files are also present in the AAC (Advanced Audio Compression) folder, under the encoder folder. The m4a Nero (AAC) folder is also filled with all those files, except the mp4creator.exe file.

I'm running Win98SE, and using Rev 13.3 of the dMC. Any suggestions please?

What type of audio is in the m4a file? (what created it)

The dMC created the M4A file. I'm converting to M4A, not from.

My source files have included MP3s at 320kbps and 128kbps (44100Hz both), and PCM WAV files 192000Hz, 2 channel, 32 bits. Same results all around.

The nero codec will only run with certain SSE enabled processors (modern).

Bingo. Got it working on a newer machine.

Is there any alternate encoder I could use, so I can continue to use my own (older) machine?

            I do not think so.
