    Replay Gain - Modify Files?

I recently purchased the new Tom Petty FLAC files. If I run them through the Batch Converter to calculate Replay Gain - does the Batch Converter actually change the files and affect the quality of the music or does it just add the appropriate tag information?

    Thanks

Re: Replay Gain - Modify Files?

You should be able to do either.

If you use the ReplayGain DSP the audio files will have no change except for the tag information that will be written. This is what you want if the files are being played through a player that can read and apply ReplayGain tag information.

But you can use the VolumeNormalize DSP to apply ReplayGain adjustments to the audio audio file. In this case the adjustments are made directly to the audio portions of the file. This is useful if you are preparing files for playing through a player that cannot read and apply ReplayGain tag information. I like to use this if I am creating an mp3 disk for my car's mp3 player, which is not ReplayGain capable. However, when ReplayGain adjustments are made this way they cannot be undone.

    Hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
    Bill
