ALAC can use some love (outgrowing it)

Trying to get high-res music on my iPod I was always frustrated that the dbPowerAmp ALAC codec limits to 48kHz/16-bit stereo even though Apple claims the format can do high resolution and multichannel in its specs. So only my CD based music got converted to ALAC, since I live in an Apple-centric world, and all my high-res goodies lived as FLAC.

Now playing with some tools on the Mac similar to dbPowerAmp (Max and XLD), I see that ALAC does indeed support high res and multichannel, so on a lark I converted my stereo high res FLACs to ALAC for the iPod.

They all play fine in iTunes (up to 192kHz/stereo) although the iPod itself is limited to 48kHz, so I either have to downsample or install Rockbox, but the important part is I can stay 24-bit.

I'd like to see the dbPowerAmp ALAC plugin come up to speed as far as > 48kHz, 24-bit, and multichannel capabilities.

See the beta section of this forum for a 24 bit encoder.
