ERROR converting Freeform mp3 to Wav

I've installed the latest dBpoweramp today.
I've downloaded several 'freeform mp3' files from MP3Sparks and am trying to convert them to wav.
"Error valid mp3 frame not found [clsmpeg123::Init]" keeps popping up.

We currently do not support freeform mp3s

Maybe this thread will save someone else several hours of there time since all previous searches would end up with the "huge update: freeform mp3 files supported" thread.
Silly me thought I was doing something wrong.
