    Converting Real Audio

Trying to convert .ram to .mp3 or .wav to burn to cd...every file I've tried to covert comes with the error message:

    Error converting to mp3 (Lame), 'C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\My Documents\Downloads\ctkiis082376.rm.ram' to 'C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\My Documents\Downloads\ctkiis082376.rm.mp3'
DirectShow filter for '.ram' file types is not installed, or audio file is corrupt. [clDecoder::Open]

DirectShow filter is set for .ra, .ram. .rv, .rmvb and I can't believe every Real Audio file I have is corrupt...any suggestions?

Can you play the file in Windows Media Player?, also playlists are not supported.

            No...get following error...

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

            File name is ctkiis082376.rm

Real Audio is not supported by Windows Media Player, is it?

Did an uninstall and reinstall...if my settings were wrong, they're still wrong. Any suggestions?

                    Re: Converting Real Audio

You did install the complete Real alternative package including the splitter (Directshow filter)? Did you install the Media Player that came with Real Alternative? If you did, can this play the files? Do you have Real Player installed as this can upset things?

BTW How big are some of these files? Are we talking MB or KB?

According to the Output page of the Options page on Real Alternative, DirectShow audio is set as system default while DirectShow video is set at Overlay Mixer. Yes, I did install the media player and it will play the files after the uninstall/reinstall. I had Real Player installed, but did an uninstall. Files are KB

OK...I lied...the player will not play the audio now...it once did. Don't recall changing any settings.

If the file is KB I suspect that it is just meta data containing a link to the true audio content. Can you open it in notepad?
