I too get "Codec could not be opened" error message

"The CODEC required to compress 'F:\DATA\AudVid\float_ii\(Mardi 'Til You Drop - 22) Sea Cruise (Frankie Ford) - Sea Cruise (Frankie Ford).mp3' could not be opened."

What I'm trying to do is resample some existing MP3s (ripped using EAC/LAME) to mono for use on a PA system on a Mardi Gras float ... that way I can fit a bunch more songs on my MP3 player.

My system uses Windows 2000 SP3. I installed dBpowerAMP to a non-standard folder but after first receiving this error I removed & reinstalled to the "stock" folder, and also rebooted. No additional codecs, no Powerpack (as this is the first use I've tried to make of the program).

dBpowerAMP looks as though it will do exactly what I want ... namely, go to 22 KHz mono ... if I could only get it to work! I've searched the forums but haven't found anything specific to MP3 -> MP3. Any help is appreciated.

Reckon I've solved my own problem ... I think it was the VBR setting. Changed to CBR and was able to convert.

There are a few bitrate, freq and channel combinations that do not work in Lame.
