    Running ACE on virtual server

Hi. We have now purchased ACE and I have been configuring it to run on a virtual server. the file types I need tobe able to convert are AAC, .AC3, .AIF, .M4A, .MP1, .MP2, .MP3, .MPA, .OGG, .RA, .RAM, .WAV & .WMA. The format to convert to is WMA.

There are 3 problems when I run a batch of the above files
    1) An error message that has the title CoreConverter.exe Application error. The text of the message reads... the instruction at "0x01e93db8" referenced memory at "0x01e93db8". The memory could not be written.
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

    2) The .ra test file does not process. the ACE interface reads... DirectShow filter for '.ra' file types is not installed, or audio file is corrupt. [c|Decoder::Open] 'RA.ra'.

    3) The same message appears for the AC3 test file.

    4) The .ram file is not converted but is placed in the processed folder with no error generated.

....And yes I have installed DirectShow and have updated the directshow text file with the file extensions .ac3 and .ra. And no I cannot listen to the file in windows media player because there is no soundcard with the virtual server.
    I have installed real alternative.

I'm wondering if there could be problems due to the lack of a soundcard?

    No lack of sound card.

Your virtual server what is it?

For testing I would use a standard windows desktop first, there the files can be checked for playback in Windows Media Player - if it cannot play then the filters are not installed correctly.

For the crash, it will be a specific audio file which is crashing, perhaps related to the filters not being installed.

We tested ACE on a desktop PC (Windows XP) and after a few issues (thanks Spoon) got it to work fine.

Now we are trying to run it on a virtual server we are having great difficulty!
The virtual server runs on windows server 2003 standard edition. Could that be part of the problem?

Bythe way the files we are testing it with are fine. They still play OK and convert fine on the desktop PC.

The error message that occurs is on processing of an .RAM file. We also discovered a similar error wjhen processing .RAM files but with the title GetPopUpInfo.exe.
By turning the 'enable popup info' selection off this error dissapears but the CoreConverter.exe error remains.

The following is the debug log when processing a .RAM file.

Can Windows Media Player play that RAM file?

Windows media player can play the file on a standalone PC.
It can also play on the server except of course we cant hear anything as there is no soundcard.

In a fit of desparation we also tried installing the k-lite codec pack! Nothing changed!

"Windows media player can play the file on a standalone PC. "

On this exact machine can dBpoweramp (not ACE) convert the file (right click >> Convert to)?

Yes it does 'convert to' on the standalone PC.

                          Hi Peter,

Could it be something to do with a difference in the Direct-X versions on the stand-alone machine and the virtual server?

Use "dxdiag" from the command line to get Direct-X version info.

                          Best regards,
                          Daren.

Thanks for the suggestion, both have direct X 9.0c.

Question from one of the techs that might help.... Does ACE need the latest .Net framework to run?
We don't have this installed on virtual server as yet but can do if needed!
