Batch Converter - List view ticking multiple checkboxes

When I use Batch Converter and in the List view, I find it impossible to tick/untick multiple checkboxes through highlighting several files. Pressing space only tick the first selected file. Is there no easy way of doing that?

Also, the filer works only for file types. I wanted to convert all high/extra high compression ape files to normal ape (for compatibility of my PMP) and I have to choose them one by one.
