    Advanced AGC possible in Converter?

I did a search for AGC and didn't find much in the forums beyond an old 2003 post in the wish list.

I'm wondering if an advanced Automatic Gain Control DSP can be added to Music Converter or if it can only be utilized with realtime playing of signals?

The kind of advanced digital signal processing I'm talking about can be seen here:

Another great example of this sort of advanced signal processing can be seen here. However this is only available as a winamp dsp plugin.

I haven't been able to find a VST or DX plugin this complete.

Is it not possible to do this sort of processing without actually playing the files through the soundcard?

If I had a wish, it would be able to use a complete mastering type solution, like the examples provided, with dbpoweramp's music converter.

Mastering is a very eyes on effort, leaving it to automatic tools IMHO would not be the best option.

      1) I wasn't thinking a mandatory tool. Just as all the DSP in Music Converter are optional.

      2) With these DSPs, they are configurable and can save "presets" allowing it to be a dynamic tool for many kinds of music.

      3) With this kind of tool, you can get consistent results over thousands of files every time. That's the advantage of machine vs human. So the tool would be a fail safe, time and energy saver. And is the exact sort of tool most broadcasters use to produce consistent results for the airwaves. I believe many people would benefit with an optional tool like this in the Music Converter.

      4) My question still was not broached. Is this even possible with a CPU only process such as Music Converter, or does this kind of signal processing have to be done live through a soundcard?

      5) Addendum question, has anyone seen a VST or DX plugin as complete as either of the examples I provided?

CPU is needed, no soundcard to act any DSP effects.

          That's good to know.

Now I suppose the question would be, would you be willing to create a DSP this comprehensive for your Music Converter?

I can only imagine the amount of research one would need to do to be able to develop a mastering tool of this caliber.

It would not be on our list of priorities sorry.

              Fair enough.

Would it then be possible to ask for a Winamp DSP wrapper to enable use of this existing Sound Solution DSP?

I know you'd have to have the wrapper enforce 16 bit only in the DMC being that DMC is much more powerful and versatile than any Winamp setup.....

But maybe this would be a much easier and faster fix and definitely cheaper than trying to either make an AGC, Expander,Limiter/Compressor with clipper premphasis etc.

Even searching through all the VST's out there, I can't seem to chain VST's together to build such a filteration system. And regrettably even your dynamic normalization false extremely short of this kind of technology.

I'm looking to save time and energy and a better reason to continue using your software. Currently, after extracting audio from CD's and other sources, I have to use winamp, soundsolution DSP and LAME out plugin for winamp to balance all music to the same db output. So 20 hours of music takes 20 hours to process and encode. And it locks my machine out of any other use being I'm on a dinosaur single core cpu.

If I had some way of either using this winamp DSP with DMC or some sort of DMC dsp equivalent, or vst equivalent, I would be able to process the same amount of music in half to three quarter the amount of time it currently takes, and would still be able to surf the web, check email etc while it's processing.

Am I asking for too much?

Winamps DSPs would not fit in to dBpoweramp - previously we have used a Winamp decoder wrapper, it had all sorts of problems (Winamp was designed as a single threaded application, dBpoweramp is a multi-threaded application and the two do not mix well)

                  I understand.

Not only would you have to write the wrapper but you'd also have to probably rework the code for the Music Converter to allow the wrapper to force specific modes, such as 16 bit only processing, and single thread only operations. Then deal with whatever bugs that introduces, and whatever Winamp DSP users tried to use and had fail, etc etc.

More work and definitely more headache than you feel it to be worth.

Is that a fairly accurate summarization?
