External DSP on utility that only handles wav without loose tag info

I'm running and external DSP utility

It accepts stdin, stdout or filein or fileout

But it can only deal with wav in and out

Is there a way to use external DSP from flac to wav processed wav to flac and retain tags?

It seems dbpoweramp magically does it with DSP's like HDCD.

How can I do it with Extermal DSP?

I can get it to process After on a Flac to Wav but I loose my Tags.

Seems like their should a "During Conversion" option that uses stdin / stdout or wav file in wav file out.

Am I missing something you guys are usually 3 chess moves ahead of me.

    Thanks

      Bummer.

how do the "Built in DSPs" work?

Is there a spec / standard / interface they have to follow to "get into the pipeline" so I can do flac to flac with something in the middle?

They are DLL based, it would be difficult for 3rd parties to interface with.

          Hi,

You could script the flac/metaflac command line applications, save the tags to a disk file, do the processing and then reimport the tag data.

Couldn't you build a generic DLL wrapper that spawns the .EXE

But I guess that's what External DSP is. But it's not called at the same point as other DSP's are (i.e. not during but only before or after).

Is the complexity that "meta data" (tag info etc.) is "passed through" most of the other DSP's?

It just feels like it's so close to being infinitely flexible. Are there any plans to upgrade capabilities here.

You can use DirectX/VST plugins, but further than that, Spoon has mentioned that the DSP interface won't be open, as it requires access to the dMC sourcecode.
