    Problem with MusicConverter and CoreConverter

I have been converting my "obtained" music from flac to flac for a couple of reasons: increase compression, remove some tags, and put the filename into the format I want. I select the files for conversion and right click and select 'convert to'. I select the directory where I want the files and click convert. It works great. No problems with the conversion. I will run a number of these at a time. The problem is after the conversion. After doing this for an hour or so I happened to run task manager and saw there was over 2 dozen copies of CoreConverter.exe running and over a dozen copies of MusicConverter.exe running. The tasks did not show up in the applications list but in the process list. It appears that the tasks are not ending properly and are hanging around. I have to log off and on again in order to clear these out.

I am running XP SP 2 on a Dell dual core laptop with 4gb of mem. I also have the current dMC (reference) and codecs.

    What is the problem?

Do you get a message at the end saying conversion complete? Are you running R13.1?

Yes I am running 13.1. I have it set up to close the window and the end of the conversion but I did get the completion message before I enabled that option.

Re: Problem with MusicConverter and CoreConverter

If CoreConverter.exe is still around that means a conversion has not finished, but Music Converter should be able to detect when the conversion is stuck and end the conversion for that one file.

I don't do a single file at a time. I'll do a whole CD at a time. I'll select multiple files and convert them. I ran some conversions today and changed the option to not close the window at completion. All conversions completed without any errors. I just looked at task manager and there are 9 instances of MusicConverter.exe listed in the process view but I am not running any conversions. Definetly a bug somewere.

Yes I am running the following DSP effects:
              1. Delete Source File
              2. DSP Effects - Delete Tag [Album Artwork]
              3. DSP Effects - Delete Tag Rating
              4. DSP Effects - Delete Tag UPC
              5. DSP Effects - Delete Tag Style
              6. DSP Effects - Delete Tag Label
              7. DSP Effects - Delete Tag DISCID

Test only ran fine. All conversions run fine and show the finished message. I ran some conversions last night and when I finished there was 36 instances of MusicConverter.exe in the process list. I just ran a single conversion for 12 tracks. It finished normally but MusicConverter.exe was still in the process list after I clicked finished.

Try without DSP effect, try also converting to mp3, are there music converters left then?

Re: Problem with MusicConverter and CoreConverter

I tried flac-flac conversion without any DSP effects and there were no tasks left in the process list. I then ran some more tests with just the ID tag DSP effect and it also ran without leaving anything behind. I then added the delete source file DSP effect and reran the tests and the problems started again. The source files are deleted but MusicConverter.exe does not go away.

Do you have any virus checker? or security software? which might be stopping it existing?

Yes I run Symantec AV and SpySweeper. I disabled both and ran tests again and still have the same problem.

Are you converting the files to the same folder as the originals?

Yes but with different file names. The original files are being deleted.

I also ran tests putting the new files in a different directory and it didn't help.
