The file 'filename.mp3' could not be opened

I've been using dBpowerAMP for some time now to convert mp3's to wav's to use with HLDJ. I just tried to convert a batch of 12 short (less than 1 second) mp3's to wav. Settings are:

Wave
16 bit
11025 Hz
1 channel (mono)
Same folder as original
Delete source files after conversion

For every file, I get an error about the file not opening. For example:
The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Will\Desktop\HLDJ\Audio\stop whining.mp3' could not be opened.

This happens sometimes with 1 or two files, not the whole batch. This can also usually be fixed by individually converting the one or two stray files. With this batch, however, individual files still throw up the same error.

Any ideas?

Anything special or wierd about the mp3 files? can other players play them?
